Have we classical musicians lost touch with the meaning of being performers? Why perform for an audience of 600 when you can perform for an audience of 600,000. Are these girls not ambassadors from Belgium to the rest of the world? The shared experience is what makes us human. A search for belonging is what brings people to be a part of a choir. Sharing experience from the lives of everyday people by singing music that speaks to them is an incredible act of humanity. When we perform only music that speaks to our finely honed ears and highly educated tastes we lose touch with the reality of our being human. I still love and long to hear great classical music, but I also am delighted by the beauty of the natural roses and daffodils that are songs such as this.
